Description
The City of Adrian (population 20,500) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Fire Chief. This is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of fire prevention and suppression, emergency medical services (EMS), ALS ambulance operations, and departmental administration.
Key Responsibilities
Provide strategic leadership and direction for fire and EMS operations.
Develop, implement, and enforce departmental policies, procedures, and community safety programs.
Oversee incident management, personnel administration, recruitment, and training.
Manage departmental budgeting, resource allocation, and operational planning.
Supervise all departmental staff and collaborate with Human Resources on labor negotiations and employee relations.
Oversee Fire Inspection Division.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Fire Science, Emergency Management, Emergency Medical Services, Public Administration, or a closely related field. Master’s Degree is preferred.
At least seven (7) years of progressive experience in fire service, with significant supervisory or command-level experience strongly preferred.
Valid Michigan Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.
Certification as Fire Officer III.
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Licensed Paramedic.
Michigan Professional Emergency Manager Designation.
Certification as Fire Inspector.
Demonstrated experience in community engagement and interagency collaboration.
