Days, Evenings, Nights, Weekends, Holidays, and mandatory Overtime.Job SummaryUniversity of Kentucky Police Lieutenants are responsible for providing the University community with a safe and secure environment in which to work, live and learn. The department is service oriented and specializes in meeting the needs of the campus' varied population of students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
The major job responsibilities of the University of Kentucky Police Lieutenant include supervision and management; patrol and investigations; public relations and service; and professional development and training.
Specific duties include supervising a patrol shift or unit, reviewing and approving reports, developing Sergeants and Officers, patrolling on foot, bike, and mobile patrol, enforcing the law, investigating crimes, building community relations, preparing and presenting testimony in court, providing security and traffic control for special University events, and completing University and law enforcement related reports.
Police Lieutenants must be able to work overtime especially in high volume seasons (university move in, football, basketball, etc.), change shifts, work special duty events, and attend meetings.
Police Lieutenants shall positively interact, enhance relations, and represent the University with local law enforcement and community partners.
