Description

The City of Janesville is recruiting for a full-time Chief of Police. The Police Department consists of the Chief, one Sergeant, two full-time officers, and several part-time officers. This position is responsible for overseeing and directing the operations of the police department and its staff. This position establishes and oversees department policies and procedures to comply with state and federal mandates relating to law enforcement. This position is responsible for the departments participation in the law enforcement support office to obtain, inventory, and control equipment, weapons, and vehicles from the Federal Program. This position assists in establishing and oversees the department budget. Starting pay range for 2026 is $97,989 to $108,638 plus benefits.

Minimum qualifications Bachelors Degree in law enforcement, criminal justice or related field; seven to ten years progressive law enforcement experience; OR any satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the job proficiently may be substituted for the above requirements. Must have supervisory experience; current Minnesota Peace Officer (POST) License; and valid MN Drivers License. Preferred qualification Masters Degree in a relevant field.
