- Public Safety Applications Administrator - CAD
Description
Under the general direction of the Westcom Assistant Chief - Logistics, supports and maintains all Westcom’s public safety applications. Coordinates with partner agencies across six cities to maintain and enhance the operational efficiency of mission critical applications utilized by Westcom Emergency Communications and partner agencies including Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems, Records Management Systems (RMS), Call Processing Equipment (CPE), Alerting Applications (Locution, CodeRed, I am responding, Active911, etc.) Analytical applications (SSRS, Crystal Reports, CrimeView/CrimeMapping, etc.) and Microsoft 365. Provides training and assistance to users of the applications.
Requirements
Routine Duties/Responsibilities
- Coordinates with partner agencies to maintain and enhance Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) configuration including Response Plans, Units, Caution, and Safety Information.
- Coordinates with partner agencies to maintain and enhance police, fire, and EMS Records Management Systems (RMS).
Enters appropriate data in the CAD system, converting member agency requests into logical algorithms. Configures and makes recommendations regarding maintaining other Westcom applications including but not limited to Alerting applications, Analytical applications, Call Processing Equipment, and Microsoft Office suite. - Compiles and disseminates Westcom information and data requests from citizens and responders.
- Instructs and trains Westcom employees and partner agencies in the efficient use of all applications.
- Develops and maintains procedures for public safety applications.
- Complies, writes, and develops knowledge base materials for public safety applications, including combining, translating, and completing vendor documentation.
- Ability to regularly develop technical documentation, job aides, and distribute communications materials. Translates and compiles technical information.
- Provides suggestions and recommendations to Westcom Administration on enhancements to systems, applications, equipment, procedures, and policies.
- Prepares monthly reports and statistics for partner agencies and ad hoc reports for Westcom Administration as needed.
- Creates and assists Westcom and partner agencies with data querying and reporting.
- Facilitates CAD User Group.
- Participates in the Technology Work Group and attend the Police Operations Group (POG) and the Fire Operations Groups (FOG).
- Liaison between Information Technology departments and end users.
- Configures and maintains interfaces to external systems.
- Acts as public safety applications administrator.
- Works with the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) staff to identify and correct errors in CAD geo-data, and to improve the end user mapping experience.
- Receives error reports from end users and identifies steps to reproduce. Creates support tickets with application vendors and assists vendors in identifying causes of errors. Identifies and implements workarounds where appropriate. Validates patches and upgrades provided by vendors.
- Liaison between the agency and end users and vendors. Advocates on behalf of users to influence vendor product development and maintain productive relationships.
- Creates and maintains user accounts in multiple applications.
- Manages system permissions in accordance with Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) security standards.
- Ensures that the City’s mission, goals, and objectives are fully supported and initiated. This includes, but is not limited to, support of the following initiatives: the quality initiative; Mayor/City Council strategies; and various other city-sponsored work teams.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Periodic Duties/Responsibilities
- Liaison with other local, state, and federal agencies in relation to public safety applications.
- Maintains relationships with surrounding jurisdictions for the purposes of supporting information interoperability at the local, regional, state, and national levels.
Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Bachelor’s degree in applicable technology and/or Public Safety field preferred
- Three (3) years of experience with querying and reporting applications
- Two (2) years of Public Safety applications experience
